CITY DESIGN: PROCEDURAL MODELING FOR URBAN ENVIRONMENTS
City Design is an image-driven method to rapidly generate 3D digital urban models for presentation in a real-time Virtual Reality (VR) environment. The tool was developed by Dr. Yoshihiro Kobayashi (software development) and Mike McDearmon (3D Modeling). Several computational tools and methods were developed in order to give the end user the ability to transform a single 2D image into a realistically textured and rendered 3D urban model.
The project yielded a robust tool that allows urban designers, academics, students, and other users of 3D modeling packages to automatically generate fully textured and rendered 3D cities. The results were published and presented at SIGraDi 2009 in Sao Paolo, Brazil
